Steps to Choosing the Best Denver Moving Companies

December 4, 2015

Moving can be stressful. And while working with a quality moving company can alleviate much of that stress, it is not as simple as doing an internet search and choosing the first “big name” company you find. Thoroughly vetting Denver moving companies is necessary to avoid hiring a company that is dishonest or surprises you with a number of hidden charges. In order to ensure you have found a reliable, reputable moving company, follow these four simple steps.

Step 1 - Recommendations
The best place to start when looking for Denver movers is by asking around. Check with your friends, family, coworkers, and even local real estate agents for suggestions. If your list is coming up short, turn to the internet or Yelp to help you find moving companies to look into.

Step 2 - Screening
Now that you have a list of potential movers, start checking out their websites and any reviews you might be able to find for them. Check with the Better Business Bureau and check to see if the company is a member of the American Moving and Storage Company. While membership is a good sign, just because a company is not a member should not necessarily rule them out.

Step 3 - Estimates
Once you have narrowed your list down to your top three or four options you will want to get an in-home estimate. It is important that you have an estimator come to your home and actually see all the items you plan on moving. Show them every closet and storage space to avoid any surprises on the day of the move. You will also want to let them know of any conditions at the new home that might affect the moving cost, such as distance from the curb to the house, stairs, elevators, etc. Rules regarding binding estimates vary from state to state, but making sure you have given the movers all the information possible will help you avoid any unexpected expenses during the move.

Step 4 - Compare
With estimates and research done on each of the potential moving companies it is time to start comparing them to one another. Be a bit cautious of any bid that is considerably lower than the others. If a bid is much higher, take a look at what is contributing to those extra costs. Once you have a bid you are comfortable with, do a bit of final research on that company. Find out how long they have been in business, make sure they are properly licensed and insured, and even make a visit to their physical location to check out their facilities. You want to make sure you are completely confident with the moving company you choose.

Choosing the right movers for you needs can go a long way to making the move less stressful for you. One final tip: On the day of the move, make sure to provide thorough directions to your new house, get a copy of the inventory list, and be sure to get a number where you can reach the movers during the move.
