Denver Movers Recommend Following This Timeline Before Your Move

May 3, 2017

Moving is stressful, so it’s always best to get a head start on packing and organizing your belongings so you don’t have to do everything last minute. But, how far in advance should you start? Here’s a timeline from the Denver movers at Eden’s Moving Company to help you manage your move:

Two Months Before the Move

Once you hit the two month mark, it’s time to start organizing your belongings and deciding what you want to bring with you and what you should leave behind. Research how you can donate clothes or other items to organizations in your community, and dispose of anything that you no longer need and can’t donate. This exercise will help you declutter your home so you can get a better idea of how much stuff you are taking with you.

It’s best to book a moving company as far in advance as possible, so you may as well go ahead and do it two months ahead of time to get this out of the way.

Six Weeks Before the Move

Now that you’ve gotten rid of all the clutter, it’s time to start buying packing supplies that you will need for your move. You should also begin to notify people that you will be moving so they can continue to get in contact with you at your new address. For example, let your utility providers, bank, doctors, and kids’ schools know that you will be changing addresses.

Four Weeks Before the Move

Since you only have a month left before you move, now is a good time to start packing up the items that you won’t need in the next four weeks. For example, if it’s summer time, you won’t need your winter clothes before you move, so those items can all be packed. Be sure to clearly label each box to make unpacking easier. Two Weeks Before the Move

There isn’t much time left, so now you should start packing other non-essential items. The only items that you shouldn’t pack are the ones that you will need immediate access to in the next few weeks, such as toiletries, medications, clothing, and some glassware and cookware. As you start to empty the rooms in your home, clean up as you go by vacuuming, wiping down glass surfaces, and dusting.

One Week Before the Move

In the week before your move, call the moving company and make sure you have confirmed that they are coming at the time and date you have scheduled their services. You should finish the rest of your packing at this time, and also pack a small bag of essentials that will get you through the first night at your new home. This bag should include items such as your toiletries, medications, a change of clothes, toilet paper, and chargers for your phone and computer.
